LESSONS I LEARNED OUT OF BROKENNESS

The roads that seem the craziest and the most difficult and the things that feel like colossal mistakes are often the direct hand of God transforming us and getting us to the place he has for us.

Within those hard times we see and hear God like we never have before.

These hard times give us empathy and stir our hearts to love God and people.

Surprising find: That our lives are not meant to be lived miserable! We go through things that are hard, heartbreaking, and debilitating. But we are not meant to stay there.

God always moved his people out of these times. Sometimes they stayed there longer than what they were supposed to. Why? Because of unbelief, fear, and sin. But in all of the Old Testament stories, God had plans for restoration and rebuilding, for joy, prosperity, for forgiveness and for abundance. That’s what his heart is for his people.

My story — I might have stayed too long. But I believe the continual breaking was according to plan. He gave me a momentary reprieve and enabled me to see that he had healed me and restored me — but not for me. Not for my pleasure. He had to break me again to remind me of the pain (which we so easily forget once we’re no longer in it) and to show me there was a purpose in it and something for me to do — a way to live my life that was…
