God’s love for us and our salvation is not contingent upon our good behavior or by living a spotless life. Our sin can separate us from feeling God’s presence and hearing from him, but he is always a repentant prayer away.
I know that sometimes I think I’m closer to God when I’m on a righteous roll but the truth is that the only way that God can have an intimate close relationship with us is because of Jesus’ blood.
If we’ve accepted Christ, his blood covers us and makes us white as snow and when God sees us, all of our sins our covered, as if we were wearing a white wool coat over our dirty brown paper sacks.
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18
So regardless of if we’ve lived our best day or our worst day we can remember that either way, it’s not our righteousness that is seen, it is Christ’s. For our own righteousness is as filthy rags.
So in the event that we do sin and we will, we can know we are already forgiven. Our entire lives are forgiven. It’s good and necessary to mourn our sins, but we don’t live there.
We wake up and we acknowledge our utter dependence on God to live right and we take joy in his faithfulness to love us in our all of our shortcomings, failed attempts, and often rebellious acts. So if you’re struggling with condemnation today, know that’s not from God. Accept and believe that his mercies are new every morning!
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22–23)
